TAKE ACTION!! Lend a Hand, Protect Our Wild Land

Tell Our Senators: We Need the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks Wilderness Act Passed in 2010!

The Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks Wilderness Act, S. 1689, passed the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee on July 21, thanks to Senior New Mexico Senator Jeff Bingaman's outstanding leadership and Senator Tom Udall's strong support.

This is great progress, but the final challenge remains!

Join us in thanking Senators Bingaman and Udall for their outstanding work on wilderness conservation issues, and encourage them to keep working for passage of the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks Wilderness Act in 2010!

FOLLOW THIS LINK to our Action Page and send a free fax to our Senators today.

On our action page, you can edit our form letter or use the talking points provided to write in your own words. Let's get the wonderful wild areas of Do
ña Ana County protected this year!

Suggested points for your e-mails and letters:

  • Let the Senators know you support the Citizens' Wilderness and National Conservation Area Proposal.
  • Doņa Ana County's public lands are places where we can hike, hunt, horseback ride, picnic, camp, and spend time with our families.
  • Our public lands are places of great beauty and wildlife. They are rich with cultural artifacts and links to our past. Our public lands are a source of pride for our community.
  • Discuss why you value wild public lands, how you use them or enjoy them, and why you think they should be protected for future generations.
  • Identify your personal connection to a particular place, such as Broad Canyon or the East Potrillos, and give one or two reasons why protection would be good for this place.
  • Don't forget to include your full name and address so your comments will be properly recorded (If sending a letter to our Senators.).
  • We have an historic opportunity to protect Doņa Ana County's natural treasures, from the Organ Mountains to Aden Lava Flow, the East Potrillos to Broad Canyon, but only with your help. Please contact Senators Bingaman and Udall!
